Celebrate and memorialize the demise of the Polaroid as artform at ArtPool of St Pete’s Purple Polaroid Party, Sat August 23d. Polaroid photo exhibitions and portraits will be taken at the door. So remember to shave, or not to shave. And wear something purple. Seriously, wear something purple.
Orlando Magazine, a regional Florida lifestyle publication, published an apparently spurious bio of Winter Garden artist Mark Pulliam. In it, Pulliam claims to have led a wild celebrity-and-Yankees-baseball-filled life. In truth, he had taken these details from the life of a close and unwitting friend and applied them to himself. Orlando Mag caught the story and promptly outed themselves and apologized.
In our experience, artists’ bios are as usually as honest as any other resumes. But artists are allowed, even expected, to use a lot of high-falutin’, even purple prose, which makes them more entertaining, if less intelligable, than your run-of-the-mill CVs. Try some and see!
Rena Charles of David O’Keefe Studios amplifies the news we found in the trades: The Tampa-based sculptor O’Keefe is releasing a new line of sculpture caricatures– both originals and embellished limited editions– constructed from recycled materials. One of the first subjects is, appropriately enough, former Vice-President Al Gore. Other subjects include the Beatles, David Letterman, and Bob Dylan. Because of the contruction methods and use of recycled materials, each piece is unique. Prices run from $2,000 to $25,000.
