Rena Charles of David O’Keefe Studios amplifies the news we found in the trades: The Tampa-based sculptor O’Keefe is releasing a new line of sculpture caricatures– both originals and embellished limited editions– constructed from recycled materials. One of the first subjects is, appropriately enough, former Vice-President Al Gore. Other subjects include the Beatles, David Letterman, and Bob Dylan. Because of the contruction methods and use of recycled materials, each piece is unique. Prices run from $2,000 to $25,000.

The downtown St. Petersburg gallery tour called the Second Saturday Artwalk is this weekend. In that this is the most specific information to be found on the web concerning the event we found by Googling the search terms -St Petersburg Florida second saturday art walk-, we feel it is not surprising that it is there is much confusion about its extent and participating galleries. Sooo, head west on Central Ave. from downtown and good luck! St Petersburg markets itself like a champ!

We don’t think there is any question that Megan Voeller, arts critic for Tampa Creative Loafing, among other things, has in Artsqueeze the most consistently useful source for arts news in the Tampa Bay area. Her’s is a personal blog, and as such is not subject to the constraints and publishing pressures of the blogging arm of a commercial publication. Translation: She can say what she wants and doesn’t need to publicize that which she feels is insignificant.
We all need news filters and aggregators. Easy enough to find nationally, tough to find locally.
Here’s the first one; more are upcoming. Visit Seven North to keep up with the new excerpts from Peter’s full length documentary “Heart Of A Landscape Painter.”
This acrylic work is 30×22 on watercolor paper, and may be viewed at Interior Motives Gallery, downtown St Petersburg, Florida.
