Writing For SEO

Writing Posts And Pages With SEO In Mind

Try to imagine what words or phrases someone searching for a site like yours might enter in that little Google search box. Ask your friends. If you want search engines like Google to be able find your site or blog post, make sure you include your subject keywords in the title, the subtitle (if any) and the first paragraph of your piece. For instance, if you were trying to find an article about, oh, I don’t know, SEO writing, you might search on some of the words I have already used in this little piece, (try and pick them out), as well as some others, like: keywords, density, search engine optimization, etc.
Remember, your challenge is to write in a way that is

  • Pleasant and informative for humans
  • Understandable by search engines
  • But without overdoing it so that you appear to be “splogging” (spam-weblogging) to Google’s constantly updated search algorithm.

Writing for search engine optimization is a lot easier than it at first seems, and it is a useful exercise in that it briefly forces you to think the way a search engine “thinks”. And having a mental toolkit with this ability in it will bring you lots more attention on the web.
