An Afternoon at Straub Park
On Christmas Eve 1909, William Straub, then editor of the St. Petersburg Times, announced what he described as “the best Christmas present St. Petersburg ever received”–the city’s purchase of land for Waterfront Park, property that would be dedicated as public parkland in December 1910.
To help commemorate this milestone anniversary, the original oil painting, An Afternoon at Straub Park was especially created by Saint Petersburg Artist Carrie Jadus. This delicate image captures a lovely vista of Straub Park that is now available as a commemorative poster and also as 5×7 Note cards. These beautiful posters and cards make great special gifts and best of all your purchase will help fund the 2010 Centennial Celebration events that will be free to the public.
Waterfront Centennial Merchandise and Information regarding events is available online at:
Also visit our booth this Saturday at the Saturday Morning Market!!!

Dorothy Starbuck was born and raised in Miami, Florida where she developed a love and passion for painting the natural splendor of her beloved tropical state. She has been most influenced by artist and instructor Dave Herbert, and historical artist, Graham Ingles.

Determination, continuous study, imagination, and a desire to excel are what enable Dorothy to paint as she does. Her paintings mirror the beauty, color, and tranquility in the hundreds of tropical landscapes unique to Florida.

Her works of art display an exceptional talent in painting and preserving the images of Florida’s diverse and dwindling, unique, natural features. These range from Atlantic and Gulf beaches and sand dunes, to lakes, rivers, springs, marshlands, swamps, hammocks, mangroves, forests, and pastures.

Dorothy works diligently to ensure all elements painted –sky, land, palms, birds, and botanicals-are accurately portrayed. Colors and textures are precise and vivid.

Her representational style conveys the calmness and serenity she feels while sketching or taking photographs in the field. Her powers of direct observation, pursuit of excellence, and ability to capture the nuances of color, light, and shadow give her oil paintings an authentic feel.

Oil painter Richard Schmid, with his marvelous capture of mood and light, is an example of an artist who inspires Dorothy. His work moves her to reach beyond herself and paint the very best for corporate and private patrons who collect her paintings. Dorothy’s paintings have been featured in the Florida State Capital in Tallahassee, at the Cannon House Office Building in Washington, D.C. in the permanent collection of the U.S. Air Force and in various Florida art museums.

The Point Washington State Forest and the Choctawhatchee bayou surround Dorothy as she paints and teaches in her studio. She lives in Santa Rosa Beach, Florida, with her husband Bob. They have three daughters.

Bill Correira Paints ‘em And Hangs ‘em For A Loyal Clientele

Soufie » 30 July 2008 » In florida-artist » No Comments

Pinellas marine life artist Bill Correira has hung a 4 by 6 foot acrylic on canvas work depicting koi fish in a informal pond setting, much to the delight of his patron, who found Bill through his extensive network of satisfied collectors. “The painting adds richness and a relaxed tropical ambiance to my client’s already stylish Florida design,” says Bill. Though large, the painting by no means overwhelms the space alotted to it. “I am gratified by the respectful placement my client chose.”
Bill “Woo” Correira’s work is available through Southern Fields, where he is currently accepting commissions.

Caleb Paints in Public At Interior Motives Gallery, St Pete FL

Soufie » 30 June 2008 » In caleb » No Comments

Painting, as usual, in public at the Interior Motives gallery in St Petersburg, in real time and without a net, Caleb completes two more paintings set in Crescent Lake Park, St Pete. The overwhelming feeling presented is one of heat and mystery, said one onlooker, which sounds about right. These two paintings are 36×36 on stretched canvas, and, unlike the last Crescent paintings, these are not commissioned work and hence are available for purchase.

Interior Motives Gallery is located at 1110 Central Avenue, St Petersburg Florida, 33705.
